Icons of modernety

A thought process in a book suggests that Akbar, Kabir, Ramanand etc are icons of modernety.
By that logic Ram, Tulsi, Shivaji, Ranapratap etc are icons of ancient and retrograde India. Such intellectuals may be in limelight and may get attantion, but the land would be richer without them. :-(
